Public Petitions Committee of the Israeli Knesset: Special meeting regarding incarceration and detention conditions of Palestinian youth ,December 2013

On the 31st of December 2013 the Public Petitions Committee of the Israeli parliament held a Special assembly regarding incarceration and detention conditions of Palestinian minors under Israeli occupation, thus following the appeal made by The Association for Civil Rights Israel.

Information was presented by representatives of B’TSELEM, The Public Committee against Torture in Israel, Human Rights Defenders Fund and The Association for Civil Rights Israel, regarding the illegal treatment of minors. In addition activists and professionals representing Defense for Children International – Israel and PSYCHOACTIVE emphasized the absence of expert opinion and legal representation once minors are detained and later brought before military court. Moreover representatives urged that there is an urgent need for a regulatory body to oversee these issues.
